                                                                 MICROBLADING

Microblading, also known as feather touch brows or hairstroke brows, is a relatively new manual method for enhancing eyebrows. It is considered to be permanent makeup, as compared to the traditional hair stroke technique done by machine. It is done using a very fine blade to deposit pigment into the epidermis. Because the colour is closer to the surface, the strokes appear crisp and very fine.

The difference with this and ordinary permanent makeup is that microblading is not done by a machine. The pigment is manually placed into the skin. The microblading manual pen is equipped with sterile packaged blades. The blade glides with gentle pressure over the skin and causes fine cuts, as fine as a paper cut, leaving a trace that can hardly be distinguished from real hair. It creates an individual look perfect for your face and the style you are trying to achieve.

Microblading is ideal for anyone wanting to enhance the look of their eyebrows. The results are natural looking hair-like strokes, regardless of the amount of the hair you currently have. It's important to be aware that every microbladed brow will eventually turn into a powder brow in about 3-4 years as pigment spreads during the fading process, leaving no visible hairstrokes. This method is best suited to "young" normal/dry skins. I will not perform microblading on a skin I don't believe to be suitable.

                                                                                           OMBRE POWDER BROWS

Ombre Powder Brows are a type of cosmetic tattoo. A digital tattoo machine is used to insert pigment. This technique differs from Microblading in that it creates a misty, powder filled brow similar to the look of makeup, as opposed to simulated hair. If you have Henna or HD Brow services, this is the semi-permanent version! With an Ombre Brow, the tails of the brow are defined, and fade into a light start to the brow, giving that perfect makeup effect. A Powder Brow is a fuller brow with uniform colour (as pictured).

This effect usually lasts longer than Microblading, typically around 2 years on average, depending on the client's skin type, lifestyle and various other factors. Best suited for all skin types, especially mature & oily skins.

        COMBINATION BROWS

Combination brows are just that, a combination of microblading and powder/ombre brows.

Hairstrokes can be placed at the beginning of the brow and form into a powder brow, or hairstrokes can be placed throughout, with soft shading over the top.

Over time, pigment fades leaving the skin and your natural brows behind. NO BROW TREATMENT IS MAINTENANCE FREE. You will need to refresh the colour as it fades, usually around 12-18 months. You will still need wax or tweeze unwanted brow hair. Some very light blonde, grey or white haired brows will benefit from tinting even though the brows have been tattooed.

NON LASER TATTOO REMOVAL

Saline and glycolic removal is a non-laser option to small tattoo removal.  A highly concentrated amount of salt water or glycolic acid is tattooed into the skin which is then removed externally instead of internally. This allows the pigment particles to be released from a scar rather than through the internal human waste system. In some cases, laser removal is recommended first, followed by saline or glycolic removal once the tattoo is too light for laser treatment.

BEFORE YOUR COSMETIC TATTOO APPOINTMENT

There are many factors to consider before deciding on cosmetic tattooing.

Firstly, unrealistic expectations, let's just get a reality check...

Your brows will NEVER be perfect. Your face isn't symmetrical, so your brows never will be. In fact, sometimes making them symmetrical can leave our face looking a little weird. Additionally, I always try to work with what you've got, as much as possible. For example, It's not ideal to have to remove the entire natural hair tail end of your brow, for as long as your have your brows tattooed. In some cases, this may be necessary, but will be avoided if possible.

Tattooing is still IN the skin and cannot replicate the 3D effect of real hair, nor the vibrancy of brow make up. If you have thick or course brow hair, you will notice less contrast with a powder brow, however, you will more than likely still see a 'difference' between your hair growth and the tattoo. This also means that if you apply foundation over your tattooed brows, they will turn a shade of green. You will get used to avoiding your brows while applying makeup as time goes on, but you can also keep some cotton tips handy to clean your brows free from foundation.

As mentioned previously, microblading will always need to be converted to a powder brow in years to come. Hairstrokes naturally spread in the skin as they fade, and after years of annual colour boosts, there will come a time when no more hairstrokes are visible and the brow becomes more shaded.

Using skincare (and prescription topicals) that contains AHA's (Alpha-Hydroxy Acids), Glycolic Acid or Retinols, or having regular peeling treatments, will fade your cosmetic tattoo significantly quicker. It may also have a tendency to make your brow tattoo turn more salmon in colour (not to mention the damage it will do to your skin).

Sometimes laser removal is necessary in the future. Too much buildup of pigment in the brows after years of tattooing can lead to saturation of the skin, meaning; you can continue to have colour refreshes, but the colour will simply come out with the scabs and make no change to the appearance of the brow tattoo. This process is far less scary than it sounds and yields fantastic results without significant damage to the skin.

Before any tattooing starts, you will have a full consultation (if you haven't opted for the trial with HD Brows) and you will get to preview the shape & colour. You can make adjustments, however, if I'm not comfortable with the adjustments, no tattooing will go ahead. While it's important you love your brows, it's also important that I'm happy to put my name on them. After all, it's like my artwork on a walking billboard for my business.

DOES IT HURT? Mostly, no. I ask you apply a numbing cream, such as NUMIT (from your chemist dispensary), 1hr prior to your appointment & cover with small pieces of plastic wrap. This stops the numbing cream from drying out, making it more effective. Cosmetic tattooing is penetrating the skin with a needle, so some discomfort is expected, however all measures will be taken to keep you as comfortable as possible. Most clients say that brow waxing hurts more.

DO NOT BOOK YOUR COSMETIC TATTOO APPOINTMENT A WEEK BEFORE AN IMPORTANT EVENT. Your brows will be REALLY dark from day 1-3 after your appointment. They will then be scabby and patchy from day 3-10.

DO NOT BOOK YOUR COSMETIC TATTOO APPOINTMENT IF YOU PLAN ON SWIMMING WITHIN 3 WEEKS. You will need to avoid submerging your face in water completely until all the scabs have naturally come off. After the scabs come off, you will need to cover your brows with Vaseline to protect them from the water.

YOU CANNOT HAVE COSMETIC TATTOOING IF:

YOU ARE PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING

YOU ARE IMMUNOCOMPROMISED

YOU KELOID SCAR

YOU ARE TAKING SOME PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS

So ask yourself... Are you ready?
